The Story

From Aberdeen
to Empire

My journey started with a degree in Electronic & Electrical Engineering from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland — followed by hands-on work as a qualified electrician and then as an electronics engineer for Schlumberger in the North Sea oil industry, developing downhole measurement tools using mud pulse technology.

A pivot into the world of high finance took me to London, where I spent four years as a Money Broker trading Forward Rate Agreements and Interest Rate Swaps in the sterling market — sharpening a commercial instinct that has never left me.

When I arrived in Australia in 2000, I moved through the energy sector, IT services and network consulting before founding Murdoch Webster Technology Group in 2006. Nearly two decades later, that business is thriving — and I've co-founded an AI company, joined a world-class empire-building program, and set my sights on something much bigger.

After nearly two decades building Murdoch Webster, my ambition has expanded well beyond a single company. I am now deliberately building an empire — a portfolio of integrated, compounding businesses designed to generate multiple income streams and lasting generational wealth.

My focus is to invest in, acquire or build businesses that create synergy with Murdoch Webster and Neologiq — while also deliberately exploring new sectors outside of technology to diversify and expand the portfolio. Finance, consumer, retail, hospitality, health — no great opportunity goes unconsidered.

The Sportsman

Before entrepreneurship took over, cricket was my world. I earned three full international caps for Scotland — representing my country at the highest level the game had to offer at the time, a milestone that very few athletes ever reach.

The pursuit didn't stop there. I spent a season playing professional cricket in New Zealand, fully immersed in the game on the other side of the world. It was an injury that ultimately brought that chapter to a close — but the discipline, competitive mindset, and resilience forged on the cricket field never left.

The same attributes that make a great cricketer — patience, precision under pressure, and the ability to read the game several moves ahead — are the ones I bring to every business decision today.

The Foundation

Family First

Behind every ambitious endeavour is a foundation that makes it all worthwhile. For me, that foundation is my family. I have been married to my amazing wife for 26 years this year — a partnership built on love, shared values, and unwavering mutual support through every chapter of this journey.

Together we are raising three incredible children — Ben, Charlie and Abigail — each carving their own unique path in the world. Watching them grow is the greatest return on investment I've ever experienced.

Family grounds me. It sharpens my purpose and reminds me why building something lasting — something with real integrity and real impact — is the only way worth doing it.

When I'm not building businesses, you'll find me on the golf course — a passionate golfer who is just as competitive on the fairway as in the boardroom. I'm also passionate about cooking, particularly smoking meats, and love nothing more than entertaining family and friends around a long table with great food and great company.
